Define Broadband

Broadband is a method of transmitting large amounts of data, voice, and video over long distances simultaneously by modulating each signal onto a different frequency. The FDM (Frequency Division Multiplexing) technique can transmit several data streams simultaneously. Broadband is used for direct communication between very high-speed computers.

Define serial data transmission

Data transmitted over telephone lines use a serial pattern. That is, each bit of information travels along its own communications path. The bits flow in a continuous stream along the communication channel. It is typically slower than parallel transmission. This is because data are sent sequentially in a bit-by-bit pattern.

Define ASCII Code

ASCII (American standard code for information interchange) is a 7-bit code and makes 128-character combinations, whereas an 8-bit can make 256 combinations. It was developed by the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) and can handle alphanumeric data.

Define Decoder

The encoder converts digital signals. It changes them into a form that can pass through the transmission medium. The decoder again converts a signal from encoded form into digital form. Which is understandable for a receiver.

Function of Transport Layer

The transport layer controls the flow of data. It ensures that messages are delivered error-free. It divides large messages into small packets for efficient transmission. These packets are reassembled, checked for errors, and acknowledged at the receiving side. If there are transmission errors, the data is retransmitted.

What is the use of Repeater?

A repeater is a device that is used to boost the signal. Every communication medium can transmit a signal to a limited distance. Signals have to be amplified in order to be transmitted further. They are used to transmit signals beyond the limits of communication media.

What happens when a collisions occurs in a network?

This causes the data packets to interface, resulting in a corrupted transmission. When a collision is detected, each device stops sending data, waits for a random backoff period, and then attempts to resend the data. This process helps to minimize the chances of repeated collisions and ensures successful communication eventually.

What do you mean by Router

A router is a device that connects two or more networks. It consists of a combination of hardware and software. The hardware can be a network server, a separate computer, or a special black box device. The hardware includes the physical interfaces to the various inter-network networks. The two main pieces of software in a … Read more

Define the term INTRANET

An intranet is a privately secure business network based on Internet technology. Although it is not necessarily connected to the Internet. The term “intranet” appeared when companies discovered that they could use Internet technologies to make company-internal information available to all employees.

What is groupware?

Groupware refers to programs that help people work together. These programs are used when people are located remotely. Programs for real-time collaboration are called synchronous groupware. It is used in workgroup computing.
